Abstract
495,024. Obtaining fibres. HASSEL, G. M. VON. April 2, 1937, Nos. 9414 and 9415. Convention dates, April 2, 1936 and March 18, 1937. [Class 120 (i)] Fibres are obtained from stalks, leaves and like fibre-containing material by continuously conveying the stalks &c. 4, Fig. 1, in a damp or wet state between oppositely moving surfaces 1 which rub them in the presence of a granular or powdered material such as sand, corundum, wood shavings or sawdust. The stalks may be supported on a conveyer 3 driven at a constant speed in one direction while the plates 1 always move oppositely to one another. Teeth or ridges 2 are provided on the plates 1 or alternatively the stalks 4 may be rubbed between sets of balls 6, Fig. 3, or sets of rollers. The fibre-containing material may be wrapped in a textile or metal fabric and in addition to the rubbing the stalks may be subjected simultaneously to chemical action, e.g. by solvents or by chemical substances in granular or powdered form.
