Segmental and block paving; foundations. - Building blocks or slabs are rectangular in front elevation, wedge-shaped in side elevation, and wedge-shaped with rabbeted ends in plan. Figs. 2 and 4 show blocks in plan and end elevation respectively. The rabbeted ends c of the narrower rectangular faces overlap and fit against the flanges of girders. Alternate courses of blocks are arranged to face in opposite directions, so that the superincumbent weight presses the rabbeted portions against the girders and locks the whole structure together. The girders may be horizontal and form road foundation members, and in other cases the blocks may interlock without girders.
