Abstract

Retaining-walls.-In a wall of the type constructed by the use of concrete frames, a horizontal reinforced concrete beam b, either continuous or formed in sections, is placed below the ground level on the low ground level side of the wall, upon which beam the retaining wall is constructed in the form of horizontal arching a of brickwork, concrete blocks or other suitable material built between counterforts c consisting of vertical beams of reinforced concrete anchored to and homogeneous with the beam b. Diagonal ties d in tension join the counterforts c to a second horizontal reinforced concrete beam e placed below the low level ground level on the high level side. The beams b, e, on the side exposed to movement, are filled in solid against the earth with lime, concrete, or cement concrete, or the like.
