Abstract

395,534. Wharf or quay walls. RAVIER, S. L., 19, Avenue de Tourville, Paris. Sept. 6, 1932, No. 24855. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1931. [Class 68 (ii).] According to a modification of the wall described in Specification 333,183, [Class 68 (ii), Subaqueous buildings &c.], a wharf or quay wall comprises a series of transverse pillars or supports carrying a platform or arches, the foot of the natural slope formed between the pillars or the like being maintained by slats or masks. Fig. 1 shows a quay wall consisting of superposed blocks 8 .. 13. The blocks 8, 9 have T-shaped horizontal sections, the blocks 10 are I-shaped, and the blocks 11, 12 are parallelepipedons. Stability may be increased by extensions 18, 19, 18<1> of certain blocks. A wharf may be built similarly of pillars consisting of rectangular section caissons or piers 30 or trapezoidal section piers 30<1>, Fig. 6, supporting arches and, above them, a headwall and platform. The rear parts may support a wall or curtain 34 resembling the part 23, Fig. 1, extending downwards from the platform to about half the depth of the caissons 30, 30<1>, and the front parts may support similar walls 37 extending upwards from the bases of the caissons for a shorter distance ; the panels 37 are inserted in grooves 38. A somewhat similar wharf may be made wholly in concrete ; the front is a wall with occasional perforations for discharging earth from between the piers.
