[Class 20 (i).] A combined bridge and subaqueous tunnel is formed in sections bv use of coffer dams a within which, after pumping out the water, the ground is excavated and a base f of ferroconcrete is laid on which the tunnel or tunnels g are constructed with their upper surfaces level with or below the bed of the water ; piers k are then built on the base or tunnel or both to support the bridge l which is reinforced by struts n which may extend towards the crown of the arches.
