Abstract

329,779. Menz, H., and Steffen, W. April 10, 1929. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Pneumatic-tyre pressure gauges with signad and alarm arrangements. - A combined pressure indicator and low-pressure alarm for pneumatic tyres comprises a casing 1 which is fixed in an aperture 16 in the wheel rim 17 at a point opposite to the position of the tyre valve. The casing has a vertical arm housing a piston 3, and a horizontal arm 9 housing a hollow rod 10. The piston is pressed by a spring 12 into engagement with the inner tube 18, which at this point is protected by a pad 19, and the piston rod 5 projects from the lower end of the casing and is furnished with differently coloured rings 6. The rod 10 houses a contact pin 13 pressed outwardly by a spring 11, and at its rear end embraces a reduced part of the piston 3 and carries a pin 20<1> engaging in an inclined slot 4 in the piston. When the inner tube is inflated, the piston is pressed outwardly, the rings 6 indicating the degree of inflation. If the tyre becomes deflated, the piston rises, causing the rod 10 to be projected from the arm 9. The contact pin 13 then engages a contact bridge arranged in an optical or acoustical alarm circuit. In a modification, Fig. 4, the contact pin has an extension 25 formed with a groove 24 in which engages a spring plunger 27 carried in the piston 21. When the tyre becomes deflated, the piston rises, carrying with it the plunger 27. This allows the contact pin to be projected by its spring 28 to engage the contact bridge.
