Abstract

176,444. Pulverman, I. Nov. 8, 1920. Pneumatic-tyre pressure gauges.-A combined pressure gauge and tyre valve comprises an externally threaded hollow stem 6 to which the tyre is clamped by means of a grooved nut 7, a tongued plate 9, a spreader plate 11, and a nut 12. the hollow stem 6, which is also secured to the wheel felloe 4 by means of a washer 13 and nut 14, is provided with a slidable graduated plunger 15 which carries the usual inflating-valve 21, 22 and is screw-threaded to form means for attach- . ing a tyre pump. The. outward movement of the plunger 15 is. limited by shoulders 17, 18 on the stem 6 and plunger respectively, and rotation thereof is prevented by means of a keyway 19 therein engaging a key or projection 20 on the stem. Near the lower end of the plunger a flange 37 is provided having a slot 38 to enable a spring 36 to be threaded thereon and to serve as a means for adjusting the length of the spring. The other end of the spring is secured to a nut 40 and plate 42 held in position by shoulders on the stem. Between the plate 42 and a washer 33 and nut 31 screwed into a socket in the nut 7 is clamped the thickened flanged end 30 of a rubber tube 27, the other end of which is secured to a reduced extension 25 of the plunger 15. The washer 33 is formed with a nipple 32 to prevent the rubber tube 27 from closing the opening to the tube 1, and is also provided with a projection engaging a slot in the socket of the nut 7. A protective cap is provided comprising a glass tube 44 closed at its upper end and a base 45 carried by the stem 6 having a socket 46 to receive the glass tube a cement filling 49 and a yielding washer 50.
