Abstract
267,098. Michelin et Cie. March 5, 1926, [Convention date]. Pneumatic-tyre pressure gauges.-Comprises a particular construction of the type in which the movement of a spring piston is transmitted to an indicating needle moving over a circular dial. The chamber 1 is adapted to be connected to a tyre nipple and has located within it a membrane sac 4 of elastic material, clamped so as to provide an air-tight joint between the chamber 1 and a hollow piston 7. Housed within the piston is a spring 8 compressed between the inside of the lower end of the piston and a screwed plug 13 located in a hole in the casing 12. A flange 15 at the upper end of the piston is adapted to engage a lug 16 on a pivoted quadrant 17 gearing with a pinion on a pointer 10. The quadrant is braked by a leaf spring 19 which may be released by a push 21, and the pointer is returned by a spiral spring. This spring is not strong enough to overcome the braking effect of the spring 19. The needle thus remains in any indicating position while the piston is returned by the spring 8 until the membrane meets the abutment 11. The push 21 is actuated to return the pointer to zero.
