Abstract

[Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A device for indicating the pressure of inflatable tyres on vehicle wheels comprises a pivoted lever associated with a visual or audible indicating means and resilient means urging said lever into contact with the inner tube of the tyre. As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, a lever 4 is 'secured to a shaft 6 arranged within a tube 7 supported at its ends in openings 8, 9 in the flanges of the wheel rim. The lever 4 is urged against the inner tube 3 through the intermediary of an insert 14 of flexible material by a spring or other resilient member 5 seated on the throat of the rim and with its other end surrounding a pin 13 on the lever 4. The shaft 6 has attached thereto a sector 15 with teeth meshing with a pinion 16 formed with a tubular extension to which is fixed the hub of an indicating pointer 18 that co-operates with a graduated scale 22 on a transparent cover-plate k adjustable for setting purposes in an annular frame 24. In a modification, Figs. 9 and 10, the resilient means is constituted by a leaf-spring 5 and the shaft 6 is tubular and mounted on a bolt 49. The shaft 6 is formed with a flange 6<SP>1</SP> to which is attached a ring member 48<SP>1</SP> of an arm 48 that carries the indicating pointer 21. Adjustment of the pointer for setting purposes is effected by a slot 57 on the ring 48<SP>1</SP> and a screw 56 engaging threaded holes in the flange 6<SP>1</SP>. In another modification, Fig. 11 (not shown), the leaf-spring is replaced by a coil spring secured at its ends to the casing and the arm 48. In a further modification, Fig. 12, the lever 4 is hinged at one end in a casing h and is pressed against the insert 14 and the inner tube 3 by an arm 62 hinged at the opposite side of the casing and acted upon by a spring 5. The indicating pointer may be mounted on the free end of the arm 62 to co-operate with a graduated slot or it may be formed as a pivoted lever co-operating with an arcuate scale and operatively connected to the arm 62. To indicate at a distance abnormal conditions of pressure and to serve as a warning or signal to the driver an electric circuit arrangement as shown in Fig. 7 may be provided. The shaft 6 is provided with an arm 25 which co-operates with an arm 27 of a bell-crank lever d the other arm of which moves in the path of an arm 38<SP>1</SP> of a switch lever f having contacts 40, 41 in the circuit g of a lamp 44 and sound device 45.
