Abstract

597,291. Pneumatic tyres. ABEL, M., and GAUDOZ, M. M. Aug. 13, 1945, No. 20748. [Class 144 (i)] A device for indicating fall of pressure in a pneumatic tyre comprises a spring-loaded plunger held retracted by the normal pressure in the tyre so as to hold a second spring loaded plunger away from a co-operating contact member in a signalling circuit. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a casing 2 fixed to the wheel rim is fitted with a plunger 3 having a head 3<1> on which the air-tube 4 is seated. The plunger 3 is urged radially outwards by means of a hairpin wire spring 5 fixed to the rim 1 by a tension-adjusting screw 7. The inner end of the plunger 3 normally holds a transverse pin 8, loaded by a spring 8a, away from a fixed contact 12 in a signalling-circuit. On a predetermined fall of pressure in the tyre, one spring 7 forces the plunger 3 clear of the head 8a of the pin 8 which is then moved by its spring 9 to close the circuit for the operation of a visible or audible signal. Fig. 3 shows a modification applied to twin tyres in which the switch-controlling pin 8<2> for one of the tyres is connected, by a cable &c. 23, to an auxiliary spring-loaded pin 8<3> carried by the adjacent rim.
