584,886. Vehicle wheels. WHITEHOUSE, A. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2605. [Class 144 (i)] Slipping-preventing attach ments to wheels.-An emer gency non-slip device arranged at the side of a pneumatic tyre comprises a series of road-gripping devices which are forced outwardly into operative position beyond the tyre tread by means of ar inflatable tube. As shown the auxiliary tread grips g are normally held inoperative in an annular casing a, on a disc d mounted at the side of the wheel, by springs i. The grips are seated on a split or segmental ring h and are forcec outwardly into road-engage ment by the inflation of airtube k. In modifications (no shown) the device may be clamped to the wheel rim; or it may be secured to, or formec integral with, the side of the tyre.
