Abstract

851,808. Pneumatic tyres. SCHUHKNECHT, E. May 14, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 16558/59. Class 144 (2). To obviate the need for a spare or auxiliary wheel, a pneumatic tyre 13, which may be tube or tubeless, mounted on a well-based wheel rim 12, encloses an auxiliary annular inner tube 15 which is normally deflated and folded, in section, in zig-zag fashion along circumferential fold lines to seat in, and conform with the well 12a of the rim, the tube 15 being inflatable to contact the inner surface of the tyre in the event of damage or puncture of said tyre. As shown the tyre 13 is tubeless with an inflation valve 14 sealed to the rim 12, and the tube 15 has an inflation valve 16 which is also sealed in an aperture in the rim. The deflated tube is carried in an expansible envelope 17 which holds the tube in folded condition but which readily tears along a peripheral line of weakness 17a on inflation of the tube.
