Abstract

569,686. Wheels; pneumatic wheel tyres. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. June 24, 1943, No. 10250. Convention date, May 21, 1942. [Classes 144 (i) and 144 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] A pair of annular restrictor members 22, adapted to carry load upon deflation of the tyre, are supported upon the flanges 11 of a wheel rim 10 and are held solely by the pressure of the pneumatic tyre 16. The members limit the transverse bulging of the tyre and may have tyres 24 to take part of the load when the tyre is under-inflated or punctured. The members 22 have inner margins 20 shaped to fit within the flanges 11 and receiving the tyre beads 18. The tyres 24 may be cushion tyres, attached to corrugated faces 28 of flanges 26 on the members 22. The bead look 17, if used, assists in retaining the members 22 in place. The members 22 provide armour protection for the tyre.
