Abstract

1424043 Non-inflatable tyres G RUGET 23 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 14124/73 Heading B7C A vehicle tyre comprises an outer casing and an uninflated hollow former for supporting the casing whereby when the tyre is mounted on the wheel rim for which it is designed the former holds the outer casing under tension stress similar to that provided by an inflation pressure and makes contact with the entire inner surface of the casing, the former having a wall thickness, over all or substantially all of its area of contact with the casing, which is less than one tenth of the maximum width of the tyre when mounted on the wheel rim. The former may be of oval cross-section, Fig. 2, or may be C-shaped in cross-section, Fig. 3, having an opening at its radially inner periphery bounded by edges 212 which in use bear on the sides of an annular spacer 211 on the wheel rim. The outer casing may have a cord carcass 104 and a breaker 110. The former may be bonded to the casing and may be made of material with a compressive modulus of elasticity > 10 neutrons/sq. mm.
