Abstract

287,355. Hagen, E. May 26, 1927, Pneumatic and non-pneumatic tyres side by side; expanding wheels.-An auxiliary non-pneumatic wheel 4 is mounted beside, a pneumatictyred wheel and is adapted to be expanded on escape of air from the pneumatic tyre to the diameter of the latter. The auxiliary wheel is composed of telescopic sections connected by spokes 2 having cranked ends to a disc 1 rigid with the main wheel. The sections are expanded by a spring-controlled rotatable ring 7 connected thereto at diametrally-opposed points by two stays 10. The ring is held against rotation by means of a spring-controlled plunger which is retained in position by the air pressure in the tyre and is released on escape of air.
