Abstract

351,834. Pneumatic tyres. MUELLER, E. M., Welcome, Minnesota, U.S.A. Sept. 19, 1930, No. 28090. [Class 144 (i).] A device for automatically signalling fall of pressure in a pneumatic tyre comprises a pivoted contact-arm normally held inoperative but actuated to close an electric circuit by means of a spring-controlled rod the outer end of which is subject to the pressure in the tyre. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a pressurechamber 13 in a cylinder 12 mounted on the wheel communicates by a pipe 14, with the air-tube of the tyre, and supports the piston-head 20 of a rod 21 the other end of which is jointed to a pivoted arm 24. A spring 22 normally holds the rod 21 in the position shown, so that the arm 24 is held away from a co-operating switchelement 27. On fall of pressure within the tyre, the rod 21 moves outwardly and the arm 24 is rocked into contact with the part 27. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the arm 24 is jointed to an adjustable rod 31 the head 33a of which bears, through a protecting cover 38, on the inner tube 34 of the tyre. On fall of pressure within the tyre, the rod 31 is moved outwardly by means of a spring 33.
