Abstract

329,303. Thimblethorpe, W. S. Feb. 14, 1929. Road-traffic signals on vechicles.-Manoeuvre signals, Fig. 3, for use on road vehicles are indicated by the selective illumination (a) of a series of electric lamp filaments of the desired form, or (b) of a series of gas-filled electric discharge tubes of suitable shape. Each signal may be made from a separate filament A, the filaments being superposed one on the other in a vacuum or gas-filled bulb 6. The filament holder comprises an outer metal ring 10 and an inner metal ring 9 carrying glass blocks 11, 12 which receive the ends of four metal conductors 13 for supporting the filaments. Current is led to the holder by a conductor 14 which also forms a support for the filament holder. To intercept any internal reflection, a flat ruby glass backing 23 is provided. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement of separate filament lamps f - - i for producing the necessary signals. Coloured glass cover plates or gauze may be provided, and a. series of fine horizontal ribs may extend across the face of the glass.
