Abstract

465,155. Supply systems for high frequency apparatus. STELLA - LUX. Oct. 28, 1935, Nos. 29738 and 29739. Convention dates, Oct. 29, 1934 and Feb. 13, 1935. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XL, XI, and XX] A lamp comprises a spherical bulb 1 coated internally with luminescent material and evacuated to 1 mm. pressure or less and is provided with but a single electrode or metal suspension cap 3 applied to the exterior of the bulb and provided with a hook 4 whereby the lamp can be hung from a supply wire 5 carrying high frequency currents which excite the luminescent material directly. For indoor lighting the supply wires may be arranged parallel or fanwise. For street lighting the lamps are hung in rows along the supply wires, preferably separated by quartz spacing sleeves which also serve to reduce corona losses. In a modification, the hooks, which may be replaced by conductive sleeves 22, Fig. 6, make capacity connection with the supply wire through continuous insulators 21. In another form, damping of the supply circuit is reduced by arranging the lamps on a receiving aerial 23, Fig. 7, turned to the frequency of the supply and receiving energy from the supply wire 18. The high frequency supply may consist of continuous or damped oscillations, or relaxation oscillations which have high peak voltages. The wavelength may be 6 or 10 kms. to avoid radio interference. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes also a modification in which lamps are provided with two external suspension caps and are slung between two supply wires. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
