Abstract

320,658. Weir, Ltd., G. & J., and Weir, J. G. June 20, 1928. Compound and, composite boilers. - Marine power plant comprises in combination a high pressure flash boiler with a medium pressure or low - pressure boiler wherein the high pressure steam is employed in a turbine which drives an electric generator supplying a current, for auxiliary machinery, for lighting purposes, and for driving an electric motor coupled to the end of the propeller shaft, the main drive for which is a medium or low pressure reciprocating engine, or turbine. The ordinary Scotch boiler a has in its combustion chamber r a coil b which forms a high-pressure flash boiler. A feed pump p takes water from the Scotch boiler a and supplies the coil b, steam from which passes to the pipe. line w, c, to the high pressure turbine t. The turbine t drives the generator e which is connected up to a motor g adapted to be clutched at s to the reciprocating engine. f driving the propeller shaft u. The turbine t may draw low-pressure steam through the pipe line j which has a, valve connection with the supply pipe d of the reciprocating engine. An auxiliary condenser 2 is provided ior the turbine t. The flash boiler may be situated wholly or partly in the back uptake of the Scotch boiler and alternatively other ordinary boilers may be used. Specification 320,389 is referred to.
