Abstract
319,499. Armstrong Siddeley Motors, Ltd., Smith, F. R., and Prior, D. L. Oct. 1, 1928. Casings.-A curved inlet pipe 2 between a carburettor 3 and a supercharger 4 on an internal combustion engine has a guide vane 7 extending across the pipe with its edge presented to the flow of gas. The vane 7 may be formed integral with the pipe, or may be attached to a washer clamped between the pipe and the supercharger. The pipe 2 may be in communication with two carburettors, in which case its end is divided by a partition to form two ports, each connected to one carburettor. In a. modification, a number of vanes are spaced across the bend of the pipe 2, their length increasing with their distance from the inside of the bend of the pipe. In another modification, the pipe 2 has an abrupt bend as shown in Fig. 5 and a number of vanes 7 of substantially the same length are employed.
