Abstract

541,661. Centrifugal apparatus. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. June 3, 1940, No. 9696. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1939. [Class 23] [Also in Groups XXVII and XXVI] The conduit connecting the exhaust ports of an internal-combustion engine with a turbine is formed as a centrifugal separator. From the ports 12 of an opposed-piston engine the gases traverse the annular channel 14 and pass through an opening 17 into the central pipe 15 leading to the impeller chamber of the turbine. Solid particles are diverted by a guide 29 to a pocket 18; eddying is avoided by providing one or more openings 30 into the inlet channel 14.
