Abstract
318,314. Taplin, T. J., Taplin, B., and Metals Production, Ltd. June 5, 1928. Dry processes of extracting copper.-The gases evolved during the heat-treatment of copper ores by the process described in Specification 250,991 are treated for the recovery of their halogen content. The halogen recovered may be added to the ore to be treated prior to or during the heattreatment process. The gases may be scrubbed with water in a tower, and the halides produced by treating the resulting solution with a base may be added to the furnace charge; or the gases may be passed with water over limestone, the calcium chloride formed being added to the ore either as solution or after evaporation; or the gases may be absorbed in copper ore which is subsequently used in the process, or the soluble compounds may be extracted with water, evaporated, and added to the furnace charge. Bases such as copper, manganese, iron, calcium, magnesium, &c. may be used to form the halides.
