Abstract

251,527. Gregory, A. W. Oct. 20, 1925. Treating ores to remove undesired constituents. -Titanium, tungsten, and tantalum are recovered from ores containing them by reducing the iron content to finely divided metallic form at a comparatively low temperature and dissolving it out by means of a weak acid. The ore is mixed with carbon and an alkali salt such as sodium carbonate and heated to bright redness in a closed vessel or in a reducing or neutral atmosphere; the product may be treated with dilute sulphuric acid, the oxides of titanium &c. being recovered in the residue.
