Vanadium trioxide; vanadium chloride; vanadium sulphate.-In the recovery of vanadium from iron ores containing vanadium and titanium, the ore is roasted at such a temperature and for such a time that the vanadium is not completely oxidized, and the roasted product is treated with a solvent to extract the vanadium, The ore may be roasted at 950-1050‹ C. for 2-6 hours, and the solvent may be dilute sulphuric or hydrochloric acid. Prior to roasting the ore may be concentrated and/or briquetted and/or mixed with a small amount of sodium chloride, calcium chloride, calcium fluoride, magnesium chloride, or other halogen compound of an alkali metal, calcium, or magnesium.
