Abstract

Ores containing arsenic such as mispickel, are mixed with sodium carbonate and manganese dioxide and heated in presence of oxygen. The product is leached to obtain a solution of sodium arsenate. The ore may be heated alone in ovens connected with condensation chambers to obtain arsenious acid. The ore freed from arsenic is then treated in an autoclave which may be of reinforced concrete at a pressure above 3 kilos with superheated steam and a solution of calcium chloride, with the addition of silica if silica is not already present in sufficient quantity to combine with the calcium and iron. Gold and silver chlorides are obtained in solution and may be recovered therefrom in known ways.
