Description

CAMILLE CLERC, or PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF 'ro ARMANI) tu nout,
on PARIS, FRANCE. I
PROCESS FOR EXTRAGTIN G TIN FROM TIN-PLATE CHIPS. I
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern; I
Be it known that I, CAMILLn Unlike, a citizen of France, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Processes for Extracting Tin. from Tin-Plate Chips, which is fully set forth in the following specification.
Heretofore tin has been extracted from tin-plate chips or' shavings (or scraps) through action thereon of chlorides of tin and of iron, but in the usual process the dissolution of tin in'these chlorids is seldom complete. The same is particularly insufficient When tin-plate chips are treated in this Way to allow the sheet-iron deprived from tin to be used for making steel, because \matters to be treated are entirely immersed in the same. The vacuum is then created Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntgd Apr, 18, 1922 Application filed January 26, 1922. Scriaf No. 532,010. I v V and increased as far as it is practically po ssible, for instance up to about a 15 or 20 cm. mercury column.
According to the process forming. the subject-matter of the invention, the tin is quickly dissolved While theperchlorides are converted into protochlorides of tin or iron.
These protochlorides of tin or iron are then a treated in the usual Way. The tin extracted therefrom by dissolution is precipitated by zinc, iron or any other suitable agent. The solution can also-be treated again by the addition of chlorine for instance, so that the initial solutions ofiron or tin chlorides can be reobtained. I V
While'I have specified per'chloride of tin in the claim, it is to be understood that I consider perchloride of iron asa full equivalent for the purpose of this invention.
lVhat I claim is:
vplate and the'like, consisting in subjecting said tin-scrap to the action of perchloride of tin in a closed receptacle vvhile maintaining therein a vacuum to facilitate the reaction, and treating the resulting solution with a metal to precipitate the tin.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification.
