Abstract
309,288. Leese, L. F. W. March 19, 1928. Zinc hydroxide.-Liquors containing zinc in the form of sulphate obtained by leaching ores or unroasted or roasted pyrites, or zinc retort residues are treated with magnesium oxide to precipitate the zinc after prior removal of copper, if present. Iron present may be previously removed bv oxidation followed by precipitation with calcium carbonate, or by precipitation as ferrous hydroxide, after neutralization of the liquor, by zinc hydroxide which may be that obtained in the process. Preferably precipitation of the zinc is effected by passing the liquor slowly upwards through a series of beds of ground magnesium oxide.
