Abstract

317,631. Backhouse, W. S. A. Aug. 4, 1928. Density separators. -A steam separator consists of two parts 3, 4, with flanges for connection together; the part 3 contains the entry 5, which increases to its maximum diameter at the place where it is secured to the part 4. A deflector 11 is placed inside the entry, so that a passage for the steam is left between the parallel walls of the casing and the deflector. Vanes 12 to impart a whirling motion to the steam are fixed in this passage. The discharge pipe 6 projects into the casing and its inner end is provided with skirts or baffles 8. The inner end of the pipe 6 may have a groove round it to catch any deposited substance. The separator may be connected in a pipe line or in a boiler, and the inlet end may be provided with a bell mouth. Specification 300,841 is referred to.
