505,771. Centrifugal steam separators. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd. (Superheater Co.) Nov. 16, 1937, No. 31460. [Class 23] A separator 1 for use in the steam space of a boiler has vanes 7 to give the entering steam a whirling motion and a discharge pipe 9 by which the cleansed dry steam leaves the separator. The separated impurities and water are collected in the lower part 11 of the separator from which they pass into discharge ducts 12 and thence to the steam space of the boiler. Each duct 12 has at its end a nozzle 13 of Venturi form so that the kinetic energy of the discharging water may be converted to pressure to overcome the pressure in the boiler. The cross-sectional area of the most restricted part 15 of the nozzle is approximately one-tenth of the largest cross-sectional area of the converging part 14.
