Abstract

Hooks.-Releasing gear for lifeboats comprises. hooks 2 pivoted at 1 to stanchions 4 and provided with toothed segments 2a gearing with racks 3a on bolts 3 sliding in guides in the thwarts 6 and maintained in their locking position by levers 7 operated by handles 10. If the surfaces of the hooks engaged by the tackle rings 5 are of the shape shown at 2b, release of the gear can be effected even if the boat is not waterborne. Release in these circumstances is however precluded if the hooks are shaped as shown at 2<c>. An arrangement for ensuring the positive release of the hooks comprises cam plates 12 pivoted at 11 and provided with slots 16 engaged by pins 14 on the bolts 3 and a recess 13 engaged by the lever 7 when withdrawn to rotate positively the cam 12 and withdraws the bolt 3.
