Abstract

295,865. Roness Engineering Co., Ltd., and Trotman, E. W. Oct. 29, 1927. Detachable propelling-installations.-In outboard motor installations which are pivotally supported on the stern frame and which have a reversible gear connecting the power shaft and the propeller shaft, the control mechanism for the gears is adapted to lock and unlock the pivotal connection. On the propeller shaft 3, Fig. 1, is a sliding sleeve 15 which through wedges engages either a bevel wheel 5 or 4, or is " free according to the position of control rod 22. The bevels 5 and 4 permanently mesh with a bevel 6 at the bottom of the power shaft 2. The control rod 22 carries a sleeve 26 which during forward running is free of a corresponding fitting 30 on the pivoting arm. When the lever 22 is moved down for going astern, sleeve 26 enters the fitting 30 and locks the mechanism against pivoting. On an extension of the hub of the bevel wheel 5 is mounted a shaft 35 to which is keyed a centrifugal pump adapted to supply the cooling water to the internal combustion engine.
