Abstract

326,505. Payne, T. H., Thorburn, J. W., Norris, W. H. G., Cadel, C., S., and Sewell, V. C. Dec. 14, 1928. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Detachable installations.-A detachable marine power plant wherein a bracket is adapted to fit over and be clamped to the transom is arranged to carry the engine unit inside the boat and to support outside the transmission unit to the propeller. The bracket 2 of inverted U-shape fits over the transom 3, and has an inboard projection 19 adapted to carry the engine 20 and an outboard portion adapted to support and guide a casing 5, 6 which contains the transmission. The engine shaft has a spigotal connection 26 with a portion carrying the driving bevel 24 whereby the engine unit may be removed without disturbing the remainder of the mechanism.. The driving bevel 24 drives the transmission bevel 11 through an intermediate bevel 12 on a horizontal transverse axis which forms the axis of tilt for the depending gearing. In a modification the engine is fitted lower down in the hull and the drive shaft is taken through an opening in the transom in which is provided with suitable stuffing boxes to prevent the entry of water.
