349,666. Detachable propelling installation for boats. YARWOOD & SONS, Ltd., W. J., YARWOOD, A., and YARWOOD, W. D., The Dock, Northwich, Cheshire. March 8, 1930, No. 7595. [Class 114.] A combined propelling, steering, and reversing unit for canal and like boats comprises a rudder a adapted to be mounted on the usual pintles d at the stern of the boat and carries the depending tube g of a transmission unit from the engine shaft m to the propeller shaft e, the transmission shaft n being geared at the top through bevel wheels with the shaft m and at the bottom through bevel wheels with the shaft e. The depending casing g is adapted to be rotated for steering and reversing by means of a cable s which passes around a pulley h at the head of the tube and thence to a pulley r<1> on a steering shaft r. The steering shaft r is mounted in brackets ql so that by swinging the shaft as a tiller the rudder unit as a whole can be moved for ordinary steering, whilst by rotating the shaft r the tube g and propeller b are rotated for steering and reversing.
