Hooks, safety.-An apparatus for releasing boats from ship's tackle comprises brackets B, Fig. 4, secured to the stem and stern of the boat, hooks E with which the tackle rings are engaged pivoted with. in the brackets and formed with tail. pieces E', and lock. ing-pins F for the hooks adapted to slide in slotted guideways B' in the side walls o the bracket and to engage the tail pieces E of the hooks. The locking-pins are sim ultaneously released by means of a rock ing-shaft H secured to the bottom of the boat and to the ends of which by means of eccentric crank-pins H<1>, are connected rods G for moving the locking-pins downwards. The end E<3> of the tail-piece which engages the locking-pin is shaped so that it does not produce a cam action tending to force the pin out of the guideways G' when the tackle is under tension. In order to provided for wear of the locking pins F, each is surrounded by three loose-fitting renewable sleeves F', F', F<2>, Fig. 3, of which the sleeves F<1> engage with the side walls of the brackets B and the sleeve F<2> with the hook E. A safety member L<1> to prevent the ring J from slipping off the hook when the tackle is not under tension is pivoted to the bracket B and can be turned upwards when it is desired to release the rings without operating the hooks E.
