Abstract

2718. Huff, W. J. Feb. 2. Boat-releasing gear. - A releasing - hook for ships' boats of the kind having an eye with an extension held by gripping jaws carried by the hook is formed as shown in Fig. 4 with pivoted jaws D<7> gripping a stud C<2> carried by an eye C, which is attached to the falls. The jaws D' are attached to the hook D and are held closed by a tapered sleeve D<8> pressed upwards by a spring D<12>. An eye D<13> carries a ring (not shown) to which is attached a line for pulling the sleeve down, whereupon the jaws fall apart and release the hook from the falls. The releasing- line joins two similar hooks, one at each end of the boat, and is carried under the gunwale with a suitable handle attached at the middle.
