Be it known that JOHN 'l.l3nnn, deceased, formerly a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and Staten-l Calitornimidid invent a new and useful Improvement in Davit 'lackle-lilocks, of which the following is a specification.

. This invention relates to improvements in clavit tackle blocks, and consists in a means for controlling the releasing hook or such blocks, by which the boat or other device is suspended, in such a manner that both ends will be released simultaneously and without danger. i

It also comprises details of construction which will be more fully described by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is an edge view, showing the hook engaged in full lines and disengaged in dotted lines.

Fig. 2 is a top plan view.

As here shown, A is a block of the ordinary oval shape, having an open channel through it between the upper and lower ends, within which the pulley 2 is journaled. 'llhe suspending ropes from the davit attachment may attach to the block at 3 and thence up over a pulley above, thence down around the pulley2 and continue in the usual wellknown manner for the application of power to raise or lower the boat.

The attachment 3 consists oi reinforcing bars extending from top to bottom on each. side of the pulley opening, passing below the lower end and uniting to form an eye 4: to receive a bolt 5, from which the hook 6 is suspended, and this hook engages a ring at the end 01 the boat, and two of these hooks suspend the ends of the boat from the clavits.

When a suspended boat is released at the time when it is to be floated upon the water, difliculty is experienced in releasing both ends at the same time, and it that is not done, one end may be held to its suspending support, while the other end, having been dropped will cause the boat to take such a Specification of Letters Eatent. l ettlellltetll uly 3, lr'll lldr Appfication filed January 8, 191?; Serial No. 141,152.

In order to do this, the hook (5 has an extension arm 7, curving from the suspeinling eye aroruid the lower end of the block up alongone side of the block to near the upper end, where it has a hinged and flattened t'aclimeut 8 and this may terminate in an eye 9 for the attachment of a releasing cord. In order to insure the two hooks remaining in position and not being disengaged unexpectedly by thehcaving of the sea a clamping device a 10 is fixed to the side oi the block in such a position :as toenga'ge and hold the part The clamp 16 is of elastic material, like spring steel, and is bent to term a base, and two outwardly extending parallel members at right angles with the base, between which the part 8 is held with a sulficiently elastic pressure to require a slight force to detach it and allow the hook 6 to be inverted about its supporting bolt 5 and thus enable disengagement ot the end of the boat supported thereby.

By hinging the part 8 to the arm 7, close tothe elastic clamp 10, it provides a leverage such that a slight pull upon the two eyes 9 will disengage the connectionand rise of the boat will allow the hooks to invert simultaneously and insure the falling of the boat on an even keel.

The transverse base of the clamp 10 passes across within the pulley channel where it is secured, the parallel elastic arms passing out through slots in the side of the block and appearing exteriorly thereto. The hooks (3 are held by the leverage of the arms 7 and the elastic clamps 10 and may be held in: definitely until the swell or movement of the waves is such that the boat may be safely launched, when a pull upon the cords connecting with the eyes 9 will release the arms 7 and the rise of the boat from the hooks 6 will. allow them to invert and release the boat.

Having thus described my invention, who t I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. ln a boat detaching apparatus, a tackle block, a boat supporting hook ivotally supported from the lower portion of the block and termed with a rigid arm extending up alongside oi. the block, a latch pivoted to the upper end oi": the arm for being disposed in. alinement therewith alongside the block and adapted to be swung outwardly therefrom, the upper and all said lateb at ill? ing bent outwardly in loop form to provide an eye, and means carried by the block for detachably engaging the latch to hold it alongside the block.

2. In a boat detaching apparatus, suspending pulley blocks having hooks fulcrumed and v turnable beloW the blocks, arms integral with the hooks extending upward along the side faces of the blocks with latches hinged to the upper ends having eyes for pull attachments, and clamps fixedto the blocks between which the latches are retained.

4. In a boat=detaching apparatus, a tacklevided with a transverse enlargement, and a 30 U-shaped spring clasp secured within the block and having its resilient clamping elements extending outwardly through slots in the block to be reinforced thereby, the outer end portions of the resilient clamping eleinents being curved inwardly to engage the transverse enlargement of the latch.
