Abstract
25,301. Mowatt, H., and Butterworth, G. H. Nov. 5. Rowlocks.-Relates to rowlocks which can be swung inwards and downwards when not required for use. The forked portion is attached to a slotted extension or jaw piece, and a pin which is carried by a lug or lugs on the gunwale passes therethrough. An L-shaped piece d1, d2 on the gunwale carries a lug D, which in turn supports a pin B, Figs. 1 and 3. The crutch A, which is shown in its operative position, has a lower jaw-shaped piece, the parts a1 being slotted at a2 to take the pin B, flat on the side adjacent to the part d1, and rounded at the base. When not in use, the rowlock is pulled up, turned inwards and downwards when the rounded end is concentric with the pin, and allowed to hang from the pin. The pin has a split pin preventing end movement, and the lug is secured by a screw d3 which construction facilitates the ready removal of the rowlock. In a modification, the lower part of the rowlock is a simple slotted stalk, and the pin is carried by two lugs one on each side.
