7732. MacDermott, T. Sept. 23. Hooks, sofety.-A releasing-gear for ships' boats comprises two U-shaped hooks A, one at each end of the boat, each pivoted between two plates A' and formed with an eye or slot A<5> engaged by the arm B<2> of a hook B. The two hooks B are connected by tackle secured to shackles E, and fitted with a slip ; when this is released, the books fall over and detach themselves from the eyes F of the boat's falls. The bolts on which the hooks A, B are pivoted carry also shackles C, D flexibly connecting the device to the stem or stern of the boat and the keel respectively. A pin H holds the part B in position and is removed when the boat is to be released. The shackle D has an arm G which obstructs the mouth of the hook A. A pin X keeps this shackle in position. The hooks are supported laterally by stays secured to eyes G at the ends of the pivot A<1>.
