Abstract
10,334. Archibald, R. May 12. Boat raising, lowering, and disengaging gear.- Relates to means for connecting a boat or other article to lifting-tackle in such a manner that release is automatically effected as soon as the weight of the boat is taken off the tackle. The usual hook attached to the lower block of the davit tackle is replaced by a shank 2 with an enlarged head 3. A member 5 having a socketed recess 4 adapted to receive the lower end of the shank 2 and its enlargement 3 is secured to the frame of the boat at bow and stern. Each recess 4 is inclined away from the seat of the enlargement, and is directed towards the other end of the boat in order that, if the boat be tilted owing to one end being disengaged before the other, the enlargement 3 will be forced out of the socket by the stem 2 bearing against the upper edge of the recees. A safety-pin may be inserted slightly through the member 5 to retain the enlargement 3. The member 5 may be carried by the tackle and the shank 2 attached to the boat.
