To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat 1, JOHN A. HOLZAPFEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented .certain new and useful Improvements in'Anchors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in anchors.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved anchor which is well adapted for anchoring row boats or fishing boats and holds securely on beds of different character.
Second, to provide an improved anchor having these advantages which has large holding capacity in proportion to. its size and weight.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:

Referring to the drawing, my improved anchor comprises an elongated or shaft like body 1 tapered upwardly and-terminate ing in an eye 2 for the attachment of the anchor rope or cable. At the lower end of the body 1 is an annular shoulder or stop 3, there being awconical or pointed tip 4 below this shoulder. The concavo convex plate 5 normally rests on this shoulder but is free to move longitudinally of the body 1. This plate is preferably provided with holes 6 and with an upwardly projecting flange 7 around its opening 8.
In use, when the anchor is dropped to the bed of the lake or stream the'pointed end will embed in the bed of the lake but, should a lateral pull occur, the plate 5 will engage, the plate adjusting itself. on:
the shank according to the depth to which the body is embedded and canting or tilting laterally to take a secure hold. is, however, easily disengaged when pulled upwardly, as in hauling in. A further advantage is that the parts are very economical to produce, as they can be readily molded.
While my improved anchor is especially designed by me for small boats and launches it is also desirable for larger craft.
Having thus described my invention, what- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: I
