Abstract

556,196. Boat-releasing gear. SINFIELD, A. D., BRADLEY, F., and SINFIELD, A. J. June 16, 1942, No. 8239. [Class 115] A ship's lifeboat or the like is provided at each end with a pair of relatively slidable substantially vertical piston-and-cylinder members of substantial length secured to the keel of the boat and to the lowering tackle respectively, and releasably locked together by means of a locking member passing through registering holes, and the two locking members are simultaneously withdrawn at will by means of single operating member. In the form shown, solid caststeel pistons 5 attached to tackle 8 slide within caststeel cylinders 1 secured to the keel 2 and extending through a seat 3, and are locked in position by steel slides 9 which are connected by rods 14 and turnbuckles 22 to eccentrics 15 on a shaft 17 rotatable by an operating lever 19. For alignment purposes the pistons and cylinders may be of egg-shape or other non-circular cross-section, and water may escape from the cylinders through ducts 20, 21.
