Abstract

154,129. Hancock, E. April 27, 1920. Davits.-Relates to improvements in ships' davits of the kind wherein pairs of davits are provided with oppositely-arranged arcuate ratchets, and with pawls adapted to co-act with said ratchets, so that the davits are restrained against return motion when the boat is being swung outboard, and are adapted to be locked by said ratchets and pawls in the inboard position. The ratchets e extend through 90 degrees and the pawls j through 45 degrees, each pawl being formed with two faces m and k at its free end, one face k functioning to prevent return motion during the " outboard '' action, and the other m to lock the davit a in an inboard position by abutting against an end stop o on the ratchet. The ratchet has a flange f for protecting the teeth and a flange d for securing to the deck b. The pawls are carried by pins h integral with jaws g clamped to the davits, stops g being formed on the jaw g underneath the pin h, with faces r and p for taking the weight of the pawl during the outboard and inboard action respectively. The pins h may be integral with the davits if desired, or the position of ratchets and pawls may be reversed.
