Abstract

Cam-, crank-, and lever-actuated pumps.-A diaphragm fuel pump is actuated by a rotary shaft having bearings in the pump body casting and permanently connected to a stem on the diaphragm through a thrust-refusing means. The fuel pump shown in Fig. 1 comprises a diaphragm 12 actuated through a lost-motion linkage 21, 22 from an eccentric pin 26 on a rotary shaft 25 to effect an intake stroke, the delivery stroke being effected by a spring 19. The bearing extension 23 for the shaft is formed with a strengthening web 24 in connection with the pump casting 10. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 the shaft 25 is formed with a cam 26<1> which acts on a lever 27 pivoted to the pump casing and connected with the lost-motion linkage 21, 22, a spring 30 maintaining the lever 27 in contact with the cam 26<1>. The shaft 25 may be driven through spiral or bevel gearing from any shaft of an internal-combustion engine or as shown in Fig. 1 may be coupled by key and slot members 31 with a shaft 32 of a generator 33.
