Abstract

313,653. Shell-Mex, Ltd., and Lawson, J. March 16, 1928. Safety - valves ; locking- catches.-The nozzle 3 of the delivery pipe of a petrol pump is provided with a piston valve 4, the stem 7 of which carries an actuating- knob 8 and a member having oppositely - inclined surfaces 11, 12, one or other of which is engaged by spring-pressed balls 13, the arrangement being such that the balls retain the valve in either closed or open position, while allowing the valve to open when the pressure of the fluid exceeds a given value. The valve is provided with a mushroom head 6 which, in the closed position, seats against a face 16 to ensure a fluid-tight seal, while in the open position packing 9 in the head 6 seats against a face 10 to prevent leakage past the stem.
