Abstract

173,580. Iftiger, W. C. Sept. 27, 1920. Disconnectible couplings; stuffing-box joints with valves. -The male member after insertion is locked in operative position by means of a divided ring F engaging a recess P under pressure of a spring S, the part L making a tight joint with the rubber packing E, and the valve I being pushed off its seat but allowing passage of liquid to the bore M through its slotted end. To remove the male member it is first pushed further in, so that the ring F is forced back by the slidable ring R, which covers over the recess P on withdrawal.
