Abstract
473,221. Hose &c. couplers. EASTMAN, I. L. Sept. 22, 1936, No. 25778. [Class 99 (i)] A hose &c. coupler B in the form of a socket is secured to a nipple 14 by a pair of pins 32 which are normally located in transverse and inwardly-inclined slots 30 in the coupler body 18 and are adapted to engage behind a shoulder 24 on the nipple. As shown in Fig. 4, the ends of the pins project beyond the outer periphery of the coupler body and are subjected to the action of a spring 34 through an interposed washer 36. The arrangement is such that, upon insertion of the nipple into the coupler, the face 26 of the shoulder 24 will engage the pins 32 and push them outwardly in the slots 30 against the'spring 34, and then, when the shoulder passes the pins, the pins will be pressed down along the face 28 of the shoulder to the position shown in Fig. 3; the parts can then be uncoupled only by a sleeve 52 which is slidable on the coupler and is provided with an. inwardly-extending flange 54 adapted to engage the ends of the pins and retract them beyond the said nipple shoulder. The coupler is fitted with a slidable valve 44 which is normally pressed against a sealing washer 38 by the pressure of the fluid within the hose, the washer also ensuring fluid tightness between the coupler and nipple upon engagement thereof.
