Pile or nap, raising and dressing.-In a napping machine having a revolving cylinder carrying pile and counterpile rollers, the pile rollers can be driven at the usual speed for " raising " the fabric through the usual encircling belt, wheel c<3>, and cone pulleys b, c or at an increased speed at which they are ineffective and the counterpile rollers then exercise a " felting " effect on the fabric, by chain gearing d, d', d<2>. The chain wheel d and the belt cone b are loose on the shaft a but can be coupled thereto by a clutch f.
