Abstract
1,078,203. Raising fabric. G. ROBERTS. Oct. 6, 1965 [Oct. 7, 1964], No. 40813/64. Heading D1S. A raising machine for textile fabric comprises a rotatable raising roller 1 or 2 covered with card clothing comprising a foundation from which teeth project, each tooth having an effective portion upstanding from the foundation, a root portion connected to or embedded in the foundation or an intermediate portion joining the root portion to the effective portion. The card clothing is as described in either of Specifications 868,589 and 907,531. As shown, a fabric 3 is raised on each side by rollers 1, 2 and guided by smaller rollers 4,.. 16 arranged in zig-zag formation. Each small roller is covered with rubber, emery paper or small pins to hold the fabric 3 taut as it passes therearound. The rollers 1, 2 are rotated at a high speed, e.g. at a surface speed 25 times that of the forward movement of the fabric, and if there is any stretch in the fabric 3 the small rollers may be run at progressively slightly increased surface speeds to keep the fabric taut and may be mounted for adjustment towards and away from the rollers 1, 2 to vary the depth of penetration of the teeth into the fabric. The roller 16 guides the fabric to a cutting device (not shown).
