Pile, raising and dressing. - The traversing brushes of a cross-brushing machine for velvets &c. are driven by connexion of their straps to pulleys driven through vertically-moving racks or chain gear at each side of the machine. The brushes B working on rollers A have their straps f<3> connected to pulleys f<2> on shafts F which are oscillated by connexion to cranks c through chains C and chain wheels f<1> or a rack and pinions. The brushes are connected so that neighbouring brushes are driven in opposite directions.
