Abstract

309,393. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Singleton, W. Jan. 9, 1928. Coatings.-Acid-resisting coatings are produced on metal vessels by treating the heated metal with silicon tetrachloride. The metal may be heated to red heat in a current of nitrogen or other inert gas mixed with the vapour of silicon tetrachloride, a coating of or containing silicon or silicon alloy being formed. The coated metal may be annealed by heating in hydrogen or other non-oxdizing gas and cooling slowly.
